Half term skiing: how to survive the madness

About Gavin

Gavin is a fully qualified British instructor with ISTD (International Ski Teacher Diploma) Level 4 BASI (British Association of Snowsports Instructors) qualification and full French equivalence. This means that he has achieved the highest level of ski teaching which is recognised worldwide.

Gavin is renowned for his passion for teaching.  He has a unique skill in helping with confidence building and can reassure even the most nervous of skier.  With over 20 years of ski teaching experience, Gavin gives fun, structured and progressive tuition.  He has taught in resorts all over the world and is now permanently based in the Portes du Soleil.

Gavin found his love for skiing on school ski trips in his teens.  Although his initial career path was as an engineer in his local hospital, he soon realised that the mountains were where he wanted to be and embarked on the journey to become a ski instructor.

Gavin is also a personal trainer with a deep understanding of strength and fitness.  As well as helping with his understanding of how the body moves and works on skis, this also complements his wife’s profession as a physiotherapist (About me). When he is not on the slopes, he is often swinging a kettlebell!

Gavin moved to the Portes du Soleil region with his family in 2018.  Prior to this, he spent 15 years working in Val d’Isere.  He has two young daughters and loves to spend time exploring the mountains with his family.
